Spells found in this Campaign

This page mostly contains new spells, but there are a few variants which are found in the book and expanded or altered for the campaign.

Variant Spells

Create Market Variant (Issaries)

Markets (or perhaps Great Markets) are powerful places, and attacking or having violent intent (not merely wishing to attack someone, but making it so) is enough to trigger the effect upon the attacker.

New Spells

Rune Spells

Create Champion Ground

Create Champion Ground - Humakt looks with favour on honourable duels, and ensures they are honourable

Theft by Forgetting (Eurmal the Smoother of Trade)

Theft by Forgetting - Eurmali Fences can clear goods of their owners' marks, at the cost of a tiny bit of memory, which is not so much a cost as plausible deniability.

Trespass

1 point, Disorder
Touch, Temporal, Stackable

The target of this spell can reduce all effects of Warding spells, any Issaries Market or Great Market, or any similar area-protecting defensive spell, including any attack spells or enchantment conditions that would otherwise be triggered by the target entering an area by one level per rune point spent. Each additional point alternatively allows the Trespass spell to cover a second human-sized target (up to SIZ 20; beings larger than SIZ 20 require 1 point of Trespass per 20 points of SIZ or fraction thereof).

Votive Graffiti

2 points, Disorder/Illusion
Ritual, Permanent

This ritual requires 5 minutes to perform. It can only be performed inside a shrine or temple to a god other than Eurmal, and necessitates leaving behind a written, painted, or carved marking depicting Eurmal’s face peering over a wall (called, for obscure reasons, a “Keelrah”). The Keelrah acts as a votive statue for the caster, restoring 1 Eurmal rune point any time the god of the shrine has a seasonal holy day or high holy day celebration.

Removal of the Keelrah requires both physical removal, e.g. by cleaning, and magical removal, e.g. by dismissal, dispelling, etc. The caster may boost the Keelrah with additional magic points at the time of casting to make it harder to dispel.

Weights and Measures (Issaries)

1 pt, Harmony, Ranged, Instant, Stackable

This spell is cast on a set of weights and measures (length and volume are the traditional ones). This adjusts them so they match those carried by Issaries during his own trading. It also inscribes them with the Runes of the Cult. Any Initiate or above of an Allied Cult to Issaries can tell whether this is a True Set, and if they have been altered in any way since the spell was last cast. For each extra rune point spent an extra set of measures may be standardised.

This is the standardiser which allows trade between cities and civilisations, and the Seven Mothers have access to a very similar spell.

Enthrall (Vinga)

2 points, Movement, self, stackable, temporal.
Available at all Vingan sites.

This spell must be cast upon an opponent in melee combat, repartee, or any other form of interpersonal competition. The Vingan must overcome the POW of the target with her own to have an immediate effect. Immediate effect is to completely entrance the target with the Vingan's weapon skill, witty tongue, etc. The target, if so affected, cannot take any offensive action against the Vingan (although they may still defend themselves with parries if the Vingan continue to attack). Furthermore, the target should act appropriately in other ways. If the initial effect fails, the Vingan may still attempt to overcome the target's POW every time she scores a special success in the appropriate combat or interaction skill so long as the spell is in effect. Every casting of the spell will affect an additional opponent. (Critter/J)

Spirit Magic

Ploughblade (aka Bladesharp)

1 point. Touch. Temporal

Commonly known in farming communities, this calls sharpness to the blade of a plough, allowing it to cut more easily and quickly, especially in heavy clay soils. Whilst this is quite magic point intensive, it is often viewed as worth it for difficult fields, and people will 'swap in' to keep the plough moving.

The Ploughing Ritual of the Blue Tree Clan - how the Blue Tree Clan get the most out of their fields

Bake

1 point. Ranged. Temporal, active (concentration)

This spell causes the area between the users hands to heat up, with a dry heat. If the target is living, it must be unable or unwilling to move, and a POW resist roll is required, if failed the target takes 1d6 heat damage per round. The main use of this spell, however (aside from food preparation), is to convert soft adjustable clay writing materials into hard baked material, as proof they have not been altered, and to ensure longevity of records
