A village for session 15, run by Rajar's Player and plotted by Rajar and Berra.
Area, Tribe, Wyter
Once Greyrock Rise
A Sambari tribe village, half a day out of Wilmskirk
Rulers/Ring
The village is now under the chieftainship of Hofrar Targson, warrior.
Village Description
Bad, bad things happened in this place. Chaos nearly flowed in, in the wake of vengeance and lies. It is currently a sorrowful, repentant place, with most of its warriors gone. The dissolution of the village was only stopped in response to the pleas of children who wished to be initiated there, and a few of those who spoke up for them.
Village Marks, Tattoos, and Taboos
Not Established, except that it is known red flowers of all sorts are dug up on sight and burned.
A useful, unspoilery, glossary
These definitions are all things that Sartarites would know and foreigners could pick up easily. If you are unsure if you would know a thing, roll INTx5.
- Alynx
- A big fuzzy cat, sacred to Yinkin, who is the half-brother of Orlanth. Imagine a Norwegian Forest Cat, but stately. Helpful when hunting. May have Opinions, and a loud Yowl.
- Ancestors
- really important, if dead, members of the community. A very few spirits hang around or return to make sure the Living do things Right.
- Carl
- a free man who owns his own land, and can feed his family with the things he owns.
- Clan Ring
- the rulers, usually 7, and at the best of times one for each Lightbringer, who advise the Chieftain. The Chieftain will sit on the Clan Ring.
- Cottar
- A free, but poor, man. Ranges from Sartarite Trash to an employed gardener without his own land.
- Goats
- A taboo animal. They look a lot like the devil.
- Goat-faced
- A really bad insult. It is about as foul as you can get without a direct accusation of Chaotic influence.
- God-Talker
- A part-time Priest, generally outranking initiates, but having other duties also.
- Hide
- A measure of land that can support a family, and also the name for the land that a person might own for himself. "Halden lives in a cottage on his Hide."
- Kinstrife
- Bad. Very bad. The worst tragedy. Families are tight-knit things.
- Longhouse/Roundhouse
- Many villages have one large house for several extended families, at the centre. Some have separate houses for everyone, or those of High rank, or those of Low rank. This varies a lot. Ask your ancestors why, if you are unsure.
- Lunars
- The recent invading and occupational force. Like red things, burdening the honest carl with taxes, and putting children to the sword. Scum.
- Moot
- A clan meeting of all of the adults.
- Mountain
- We promised the regular GM we wouldn't destroy a whole one.
- Predark
- The creatures of Chaos. The word may be related to 'predatory' and 'dark', but 'horrific' also works.
- Tula
- The lands claimed by a clan.
- Village Ring
- Much like a Clan Ring, but often informal, depending on the size of the village, and highly unlikely to contain 7 Lightbringers. May not contain 7 people. May or may not exist, depending on how Ancestors did it.
- Wyter
- A community spirit. The local god of a thing or place that represents the community, be it a tribe, a village, or a single lonesome shrine.
